Launching Project Baseline Midwest
MWUE is thrilled to have formally launched Project Baseline Midwest, and we have big plans for the future. Check out the Project Baseline entry here.
Our first install is a citizen science visibility and temperature logging station alongside the Wells Burt wreck off Chicago. Local dive boats will have information cards showing any diver—not just MWUE divers—how to interact with the station and upload the information they record to the MWUE database via a simple QR code. This is a proof-of-concept design and if it survives the winter, look for more next dive season.
We are also in the midst of creating temperature logging sites for a more controlled temperature-over-time data set in Southern Lake Michigan.
There will be time for us to share this in a more interactive environment during a future MWUE (Virtual) Meet, but in the meantime we welcome you to take a look at these slides to learn more. And reach out if you want to get involved!
Special thanks to our install team: Project Lead John Knoepfle, Bill Perry, Bob Kilburn, Dan Vegter, Pedro Boria, and Marcus Doshi, with a very special thanks to Nicole Alarid for the documentation.

Here's a happy bunch of teammates!
