At Midwest Underwater Explorers, community is at the heart of everything we do. The adage goes “any GUE diver can meet another GUE diver anywhere in the world, shake hands, and go diving,” and we know that it is true because we’ve done it. Our goal is to not only make MWUE a welcoming community for Global Underwater Explorers divers across the Midwest—including the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio—and the larger Great Lakes region, but for any GUE diver from our sister communities, any GUE instructor who wants to host a class here, and any diver, regardless of background, who is GUE curious.

By leveraging the power of community, we can reinforce why we got into diving in the first place—because it is fun—and we can help ourselves grow in capacity through practice, reflection, and encouragement, from the basic five to bottle rotations. And, as our capacity as a community grows, we can leverage that for our initiatives, like Project Baseline Midwest, cultivate partnerships with other groups and agencies that can benefit from our expertise and can-do spirit, and, of course, successfully conduct ever more challenging dives at home or away.

To be sure, we do this within the context of our commitment to the best that Global Underwater Explorers has to offer—indeed, a “commitment to excellence,” which includes high-quality training, standard operating procedures, and team-based diving.
